How to Adjust the Intonation of the HLB155 Bridge
For the HLB155 headless bridge, the saddle position is secured using a screw located on the side of the saddle.
By loosening the saddle locking screw, you can move the saddle forward or backward to adjust the intonation.
Please refer to the attached picture for guidance.
Procedure for Adjusting Intonation on the Bridge
-
Adjust the saddle height first, then set the intonation.
- Start by adjusting the saddle height to achieve your preferred string action.
-
Loosen the saddle locking screw.
- Insert the wrench into the saddle locking screw and turn it counterclockwise to release the saddle.
-
Check the pitch difference between the open string and the 12th fret.
- Tune the open string to the correct pitch.
- Press the 12th fret and check if the pitch is exactly one octave higher than the open string.
-
If the pitch at the 12th fret is sharp (higher):
- Move the saddle backward (away from the nut).
- Retune the open string and check the 12th fret pitch again.
-
If the pitch at the 12th fret is flat (lower):
- Move the saddle forward (closer to the nut).
- Retune the open string and check the 12th fret pitch again.
-
Once the intonation is set, tighten the saddle locking screw by turning it clockwise.
Tips
- When tightening the saddle locking screw, hold the saddle in place to prevent it from shifting.
- Tighten the screw lightly at first, and apply slight additional pressure to finish. Over-tightening may damage the screw’s hex socket and wrench.
- If the neck relief is not properly adjusted (e.g., the neck is too straight or too bowed), intonation may still be inaccurate on other frets even if it is correct at the 12th fret. In such cases, adjust the truss rod as well to achieve accurate intonation across the entire neck.
